MetroTransit and BusTrans To Begin Codeshared Services

MetroTransit and BusTrans embarks on a new level of co-operation with the introduction of codeshared bus services on Monday, 3rd January 2005.

MetroTransit will be codesharing on BusTrans' Service 640, which plies between Tampines and Clementi Interchanges, while BusTrans will codeshare on MetroTransit's Service 733, which plies between Sengkang Interchange and Kent Ridge Terminal. Both services are two of the companies' most profitable bus services and passengers on both services will be able to earn MetroTransit's Loyalty Points.

Mr Darryl Chua, CEO of BusTrans said, "This heralds a new milestone in the future of public transportation in Singapore. Never before have 2 bus companies joined forces in sharing routes. This would probably augur well for other companies as well." CEO of MetroTransit, Mr Ishak Ismail expressed optimism that the codeshared services will be able to boost passenger riderships on both services. He also wished that the agreement will be a stepping stone for other public transport operators to explore new ways to enhance the bus transportation industry in Singapore.

The CEOs of both companies are looking at the possibilities of introducing more codeshare agreements on other bus services should this pioneer agreement be successful.

MetroTransit and BusTrans have long been partners in the bus transportation industry in Singapore. They are also joint owners of Armada CoachWorks, Singapore's largest bus and coach bodyworks company.

MetroTransit and BusTrans are members of the FantasyBus Alliance.
